SPEECH & DEBATE CAMP 2023

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
Colossians 4:6

JULY 17 – 21

Learn New Skills!

Grow your skills in communication, logic, and critical thinking.

Prepare to be launched into the world, being able to withstand the turbulent times we as Christ-Followers face.

Doing it all with gentleness, grace, honor, respect, and love.

What We’ll Offer…

Introduction to Speech and Debate (Beginner Track)

We will lovingly and patiently help lay down a solid foundation of speech and debate in a way that aims to encourage them and meet them just where they’re at.

Intermediate/Advanced Speech and Debate

We will help these students understand how to identify good habits and bad habits in their current approach to speech and debate, so they can continue to refine their skills and set them up to be more effective in both
the short-term and the long-term. Experienced students can choose either the Team Policy or the Lincoln Douglas debate track, where they will learn beginning and advanced debate skills and participate in applied content discussions about the new NCFCA resolutions.

Our Camp Coaches

from

Louis Kolssak

is an experienced business advisor with over 30 years of consulting expertise.  He currently serves as the lead debate coach at EverReady Speech & Debate, where he leads the Team Policy debate club. Louis brings a unique perspective to coaching, having earned a state championship in policy debate during his high school days. Over his 10 years as coach, he has enjoyed watching students develop an appreciation for the discipline of debate.  Louis views debate not just as an intellectual exercise but as a search for truth, where students can develop critical thinking and effective communication skills that last a lifetime. As one of our TP instructors, Louis will bring a love for debate and a practical, real-world perspective to those learning debate as a novice or refining their skills as an advanced debater.

Hillary Kolssak

is the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Coach at EverReady Speech and Debate in Chicago, EverReady Club Director, and a member of the Lasting Impact! teaching team. In addition to a decade of coaching in speech and debate, Hillary has also received specialized training in Biblical Worldview through the Colson Center Fellows Program, further enhancing her ability to instill a comprehensive, worldview-driven perspective in her students. Her experience encompasses judging and coaching various forms of debate, and she finds fulfillment in working with students to refine their speeches and witness their growth in communication skills. Alongside her husband Louis, Hillary is a parent to four grown children, three of whom have actively participated in NCFCA.  At the upcoming debate camp, Hillary will be co-leading the general sessions while also spearheading the breakouts for speech and Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Nathanael Kolssak

is an NCFCA alum who competed for six years in nearly every speech category as well as Team Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate. Having achieved nationally ranked status in speech and debate, Nathanael has continued his journey at Cedarville University, where he is currently pursuing a degree in communications and entrepreneurship. Going beyond his academic pursuits, Nathanael has found fulfillment in coaching high school debate and teaching multiple debate camps. Nathanael’s approach to debate is unique, as he is a staunch advocate for developing narratives that captivate judges and create winning storylines. Nathanael will be leading sessions in both speech and debate this summer.
